(Central News Agency, Taipei, June 11) The Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK has been collaborating with the Delfina Foundation, a London-based arts residency organization, to regularly select Taiwanese artists or curators for exchange in London since 2020. From 106 applicants, artist Yu-Ting Tsai has been selected.
Tsai is scheduled to reside and create in the UK from June 22 to September 13. He holds a Master's degree in New Media Art from Taipei National University of the Arts and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He currently works as an independent artist. His creative vocabulary often integrates different fields of knowledge such as nature, technology, and history, using media including installation, video, and photography.
Tsai has held several solo exhibitions in Taiwan, including 'The Sleepless Mountain' (Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, 2024), 'Image Sandbox, Mother and Daughter' (Golden Horse Hotel Contemporary Art Museum, 2025), 'Crying, Laughing, Soaking the Body, Whispering Goodbye' (Changhua County Art Museum), and 'After Home' (Hung Chien-Chuan Foundation). He has also participated in international events such as the 2024 Madrid International Moving Image Art Festival in Spain and the 2025 Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria.
Today, the Delfina Foundation announced through the Ministry of Culture that Tsai's application proposed to continue his recent research on 'the reality of faith, collective consciousness, and local narratives in contemporary cities.' He plans to consider how traditional beliefs and symbols are re-transformed and perceived in contemporary urban environments, drawing inspiration from the presentation of deities, spirits, and collective memory in mascots, rituals, and performances.
The Cultural Division of the Taipei Representative Office in the UK stated that it will continue to promote various programs to support Taiwanese artists and curators in going international. It hopes that through the Delfina Foundation's extensive professional network, the selected artist can initiate more diverse dialogues with the contemporary art community during the residency, build international connections, and gain ideas and materials for future curation, ultimately bringing the research results back to both domestic and international venues.
