(CNA reporter Chang Chi, Hualien County, June 12) – Prosecutors and investigators are probing a bidding scandal involving school nutrition lunch contracts in Hualien County government’s elementary and junior high schools. Deputy County Magistrate Yen Hsin-Chang is suspected of providing undue benefits to contractors. He was searched and taken in for questioning yesterday. After multiple rounds of interrogation, early this morning at around 1 a.m., he was ordered to post a bail of NT$1 million to be released.
Rao Chung, the county government’s acting secretary-general, was also brought in for questioning as a witness in the same case. After being transferred to the local prosecutor’s office late last night at around 10 p.m., he provided sworn testimony and was subsequently released.
