US-Iran War Key News
Central Message
(Central News Agency, Washington, 11th - comprehensive international report) US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated today that damages caused by Iran to Gulf allies will be compensated from Iranian funds. He also warned that Tehran's attacks would bring severe economic consequences.
According to AFP, Bessent wrote on the X platform: "Any damage Iran causes to our Gulf allies will be deducted and paid from Iranian accounts."
Bessent made these remarks as President Trump announced this morning that he would launch a new wave of attacks on Iran, ultimately seizing its key oil infrastructure.
Since late February, the United States and Israel have launched attacks on Iran, triggering a war that has swept across the Middle East and disrupted critical energy supply chains, causing energy costs to soar.
Bessent stated today that Iran's attacks "will only make the economic and financial consequences it faces even more severe." He added, "Any toll payments made to the Persian Gulf Strait Authority (PGSA) will be offset by an equivalent amount deducted from its accounts."
The Persian Gulf Strait Authority is a newly established Iranian entity tasked with collecting tolls from vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz. This strategically vital waterway for energy transport has been effectively closed by Iran since the early stages of the conflict.
Bessent previously stated that Washington would not tolerate forced toll collection in the Strait of Hormuz and threatened further economic sanctions against any parties involved. (Translation: Chu Hsiang-ping) 1150612
