According to Central News Agency reporter Yeh Chen, a 30-year-old man surnamed Chang from Taoyuan City drove under the influence of drugs and attempted to evade police inspection last night, fatally striking two pedestrians near Minsheng General Hospital in Taoyuan District. When police signaled for him to stop for inspection, Chang refused and fled at high speed, repeatedly running red lights, swerving, and driving dangerously, severely endangering public safety.

During the chase, Chang lost control of his vehicle and crashed into two pedestrians, resulting in their deaths. Subsequent testing confirmed Chang tested positive for methamphetamine. Methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were also seized at the scene. They reiterated a zero-tolerance policy toward drug-related crimes and drugged driving, pledging to continue thorough investigations targeting both the supply chain and end users in accordance with the principle of tracing sources upstream and eradicating roots downstream.
