From Deaflympics Bronze to Presidential Education Award: Zhuqi High School's Xiao Anyu Shows Resilience

(Central News Agency reporter Cai Zhiming, Chiayi County, 11th) Xiao Anyu, a badminton-specialized student in the sports class of Zhuqi High School, overcame her hearing impairment to demonstrate life resilience. She competed in the 2025 Tokyo Deaflympics, winning a team bronze medal, was admitted to National Tsing Hua University, and also received the Presidential Education Award. Chiayi County Magistrate Weng Chang-liang met with her today to express affirmation and encouragement.

The Chiayi County Government issued a press release today stating that Xiao Anyu is the only student from Chiayi County to receive the Presidential Education Award this year. Magistrate Weng invited her to the county magistrate's office for a tea meeting and conversation, using the face-to-face dialogue to understand her journey to the award and her future aspirations.

Xiao Anyu said, "I am very happy to receive the affirmation of the Presidential Education Award. I thank the county magistrate, the principal, my family, teachers, and all my classmates for giving me the opportunity to receive this award. In the future, I will study at National Tsing Hua University, continue to work hard at playing badminton, and develop in the direction of sports. I hope to have the chance to participate in the Deaflympics again and win medals."

Zhuqi High School Principal Su Yuan-yuan stated that Xiao Anyu is a student with moderate hearing impairment. With the long-term companionship and support of her family, she has always faced challenges with a positive attitude. She originally attended a regular class at another school, but to pursue badminton training, she transferred to the sports class at Zhuqi High School in her second year of high school, dedicating herself to a life of study and training, and actively preparing for the Deaflympics selection.

Magistrate Weng said, "People must affirm themselves in life, no matter what situation they are in. Even if you are a little different from others, it will not become an obstacle; it can even help you forge a different path. When many successful celebrities share their experiences, they often mention that the people who influenced them the most were their parents. At the end of the meeting, Magistrate Weng prepared an iPad, a tablet protective case, and an Apple Pencil for Xiao Anyu.
