Central News Agency Report

(Taipei, April 11 — Reporter Huang Li-yun) A phone rental shop in Taipei that serves celebrity-chasing fans was broken into last night, resulting in the theft of over 100 smartphones, filming accessories, and cash, with total losses exceeding 4 million New Taiwan Dollars (NTD). Taipei police responded to the incident and have launched an investigation targeting two men, one of whom, a man surnamed Cheng, has already voluntarily appeared to give a statement.

The Daan District Police Station of the Taipei City Police Department issued a press release today, stating that their Dunhua South Road Precinct received a report last night from a business operator whose shop on Zhongxiao East Road had been unlawfully entered. Over 100 smartphones, lenses, and nearly 200,000 NTD in cash were stolen, with total financial losses surpassing 4 million NTD.

Police immediately dispatched officers to the scene and requested investigation oversight from the Taipei District Prosecutors Office. According to the investigation, the suspect Cheng and another man not yet in custody were both known to the shop owner. It is suspected that during the incident, they called a locksmith to open the door, entered the premises, took valuables, and left.

Police will continue investigating under suspicion of theft. As both suspects are acquainted with the shop owner, authorities are also examining whether the incident stemmed from shareholder or investment disputes, which remains to be clarified. (Edited by Hsiao Po-wen) 1150611
