The 2026 FIFA World Cup is about to kick off. A 'psychic parrot' in Japan, which has accurately predicted the results of international sports events many times in the past, predicted on the afternoon of the 11th that the Japanese national team would advance from the group stage with 'three consecutive wins'.
According to a report by the Asahi Shimbun, the 21-year-old African grey parrot named 'Olivia', known for its high intelligence, currently lives at 'Nasu Animal Kingdom' in Nasu Town, Tochigi Prefecture.
Olivia began her sports fortune-telling in 2014. At the 2015 Women's World Cup in Canada, she accurately predicted the outcome of 6 out of 7 matches played by Japan. In the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC), she perfectly predicted the results of all 7 matches played by Japan.
Olivia's overall accuracy rate for various international sports events is 53.6%, correctly predicting 59 out of 110 matches.
However, her lowest accuracy rate is for the men's World Cup.
In the 2014 Brazil World Cup, 2018 Russia World Cup, and 2022 Qatar World Cup, Japan played a total of 11 matches. Olivia only correctly predicted 1, an accuracy rate of just 9%.
Due to rain on the day, the fortune-telling was held at the 'Alpaca Hill' area of Nasu Animal Kingdom.
After 3:00 PM Japan time, under the watchful eyes of visitors, Olivia performed her predictions for Japan's group stage matches against the Netherlands, Tunisia, and Sweden.
The method involved Olivia picking up a flag representing the Japanese national flag, the opponent's flag, or a flag representing a 'draw' with her beak.
In all three matches, although she hesitated between the Japanese flag and the opponent's flag, she ultimately chose the Japanese flag each time, predicting a clean sweep for Japan.
