(CNA, Lienchiang County, June 10, Reporter Pan Hsin-Tung) Affected by a stalled front and southwest airflow, most flights in Matsu were suspended from June 8 to 9, and the Taiwan-Matsu ferry service was halted due to high waves, leaving nearly 1,000 passengers stranded. Military aircraft evacuation operations began today.

A press release from the Lienchiang County Government stated that from June 8 to 9, due to weather conditions, all flights at Beigan Airport were suspended for the entire day, while Nangan Airport only saw two landings. Maritime transport, including the 'Taima Star', was also suspended. As of the evening of the 9th, about 950 passengers were stranded. Military aircraft evacuation operations started today. The Matsu Aeronautical Station had initially requested 6 flights, but due to rainfall in the departure area of Pingtung and a restriction preventing planes from taking off or landing at Nangan Airport after sunset, only 4 flights are expected today.

Quan Hang Tung Navigation Co., the operator of the 'Hsin Tai Ma' ferry, announced this morning that the service from Keelung Port to Matsu tonight and from Matsu back to Keelung tomorrow morning will operate as scheduled.

The Lienchiang County Government's Transportation and Tourism Bureau informed CNA via message that as of noon today, about 500 passengers remained stranded. The four military aircraft can transport 280 people. Combined with vacant seats on UNI Air and Mandarin Airlines flights, as well as the Hsin Tai Ma ferry from Matsu to Keelung tomorrow morning, it is expected that the stranded passengers will be mostly transported by tomorrow morning.

Since early this morning, Nangan Airport has been crowded with a large number of passengers waiting for flights back to Taiwan. Many showed anxiety on their faces but waited patiently. The situation remained orderly, with no pushing or commotion as of 2 PM. (Editor: Lin Shu-Hui) 1150610
