(Central News Agency, New Delhi, 10th) Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who first took office on May 26, 2014, has now served for 4,399 consecutive days, making him the longest-serving elected prime minister in India's history. According to media reports, Modi's achievements include helping 250 million people escape poverty and transforming India from a symbol of "economic fragility" into an emerging economy.

India's previous longest-serving prime minister was Jawaharlal Nehru, who was first elected in 1952 and served as an elected prime minister for 4,398 consecutive days. This record was broken by Modi today.

To mark this milestone, Modi emphasized the values of public service, humility, and responsibility, stating that these are the cornerstones of good governance in India.

In a social media post, Modi said, "Only through selfless dedication and loyalty to the people can one win their trust." He wrote, "The results of public service are the highest standard for measuring good governance. Only those who are humble, dedicated, responsible, and tireless in their work can win the trust of the people."

According to The Print, Modi has focused on governance outcomes. Economically, he has provided financing for small and medium-sized enterprises, privatized loss-making state-owned enterprises, and turned state-owned enterprises profitable, making India the fastest-growing economy. During this period, he helped 250 million people escape poverty, transforming India from a symbol of "economic fragility" into an emerging economy.

Furthermore, Modi abolished thousands of outdated laws from the British colonial era or the Nehru era and actively cultivated India's innovation and entrepreneurship ecosystem. As a result, India now has over 150,000 startups and more than 100 unicorn companies.

In defense, Modi implemented measures to modernize and rationalize the military, equipping soldiers with modern combat tools and bringing the private sector into defense research, development, and manufacturing.

Modi's achievements have also been praised by dignitaries worldwide. Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim posted on social media, crediting Modi with making significant contributions to India's development, prosperity, and international standing.

Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake also congratulated Modi.

U.S. Senator John Cornyn also posted on social media, congratulating Modi on becoming India's longest-serving elected prime minister, noting 4,399 days of leadership, winning the trust of 1.4 billion people in three democratic elections, and highlighting the major changes in India under Modi's tenure, from lifting 250 million people out of poverty to making India the world's fastest-growing major economy.

U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also posted, stating that his strong achievements are a testament to years of dedication to public service and exceptional leadership.

According to NDTV, Modi first became prime minister in May 2014 and won a third consecutive term in 2024. Under his leadership, India's economy and society have undergone significant transformation, making it the world's fifth-largest economy, occupying an important position on the global diplomatic stage, and becoming the most important voice of the Global South.
