(Central News Agency, reporter Lu Taicheng, Taitung County, 10th) The Highway Bureau's Guanshan Construction Office stated today that a slope collapse occurred at around 5 AM at Provincial Highway 20, Section 177K+700 (the Lidao section of the Southern Cross-Island Highway) in Haiduan Township, Taitung County, rendering the road impassable in both directions. The office has dispatched contractor machinery for emergency clearance, and normal traffic is expected to resume by 9 AM.
The Central Weather Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications has issued a heavy rain advisory. Due to the influence of a stationary front and southwesterly winds, short-duration heavy rainfall is likely. Localized heavy or torrential rain is expected in Taitung County, the Hengchun Peninsula, mountainous areas of Kaohsiung City, and mountainous areas of Pingtung County.
