Baguashan Tunnel to Close for One Hour at Night on June 16-17 for Disaster Drill

(CNA, Changhua, June 10) The Ministry of Transportation and Communications' Highway Bureau will conduct a disaster prevention drill in the Baguashan Tunnel on Provincial Highway 76 on June 16 and 17. The tunnel will be closed in both directions for 60 minutes from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM on both nights, and the public is advised to take note and plan alternative routes in advance.

The Central Region Maintenance Engineering Branch of the Highway Bureau stated in a press release that to strengthen the emergency response capabilities of highway units and related agencies, the "115th Year Baguashan Tunnel Disaster Prevention and Rescue Drill" will be held. A rehearsal will take place from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM on the 16th, followed by the official drill from 9:00 PM to 10:00 PM on the 17th. During these times, the Baguashan Tunnel will be closed in both directions for 60 minutes.

The branch suggests that for traffic from Yuanlin, Changhua to Caotun, Nantou, the alternative route is to exit at the Lin厝 interchange on Provincial Highway 76, travel via County Road 137 and County Road 148, and connect to Provincial Highway 14B. For traffic from Puyan, Changhua to Caotun, motorists can take National Highway No. 1 from the Puyan interchange, switch to National Highway No. 3, exit at the Caotun interchange, and connect to Provincial Highway 14B.

The branch added that vehicles will be prohibited from entering the Baguashan Tunnel during the drill.
