(CNA, Washington, 9th, Comprehensive Foreign Report) U.S. President Trump stated early this morning that a U.S. Army Apache helicopter had crashed near the Strait of Hormuz, and the pilots "are all safe."
According to Reuters, Trump mentioned on the tarmac at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York before returning to Washington D.C. that "nobody was hurt" in the incident.
He indicated that the administration would release a report later today.
The New York Times reported late last night, citing two sources familiar with the matter, that an Army Apache attack helicopter had crashed near the Strait of Hormuz that day, and both crew members had been safely rescued.
The report stated that it is currently unclear whether the Apache helicopter was shot down by Iranian fire, experienced a mechanical failure, or encountered another situation.
The U.S. Department of State and U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment. (Compiled by: Ho Hung-Ju) 1150609
