(Central News Agency, Beijing, 9th – Combined Foreign Reports) Washington today added some of the world's largest solar and battery manufacturers to a US blacklist of companies deemed to be assisting the Chinese military.
According to a Reuters report, the updated list includes the world's two largest solar panel manufacturers, Trina Solar and JA Solar, as well as e-commerce giant Alibaba and search engine leader Baidu.
Additionally, the list includes EVE Energy and CALB, two of the largest battery manufacturers in the energy storage and electric vehicle sectors.
Trina Solar, JA Solar, EVE Energy, and CALB did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment. Alibaba, Baidu, and biotechnology company WuXi AppTec stated in statements that their inclusion on the list was a mistake and that they would take action to change this designation.
Under US law, the Pentagon will be prohibited from entering into direct contracts with companies on the list starting in 2027, and will be restricted from purchasing their products or services through third parties.
Craig Singleton, a China expert at the Washington-based think tank Foundation for Defense of Democracies, said the release of the list undoubtedly reveals the reality of intense US-China competition following the Trump-Xi summit.
Singleton pointed out, "Washington no longer views these companies as isolated entities but sees the entire technology industry as the focal point of strategic competition." (Editor: Liu Shuqin) 1150609
