TAIPEI (CNA) – A netizen posted images alleging that students at the Taiwan Police Academy (TPA) were vaping in their dormitory, and that after reporting the incident, school officials appeared to show favoritism or handled the matter passively. The TPA responded on Sunday, stating that an investigation confirmed the students had violated regulations by vaping. They were punished with demerits according to school rules, and the case has been referred to the Taipei City Health Bureau for fines. The original post on a social media platform on Saturday claimed that a male student was vaping in the dormitory, affecting the health and living conditions of his roommates. It alleged that after reporting to the unit, school officials showed favoritism or were passive, questioning campus management and disciplinary fairness. In response, the TPA issued a press release stating that the photos and videos circulating online were from an incident that occurred in January of this year. The school investigated and took disciplinary action immediately. The investigation confirmed the students violated rules by vaping, but no drug use (etomidate) was detected. The school issued one demerit and two demerits respectively to the students involved and referred the case to the Taipei City Health Bureau for legal penalties. Regarding online rumors about students being involved with drugs or having special backgrounds, the TPA stated that after interviewing the individuals, their peers, and relevant personnel, no such controversies were found. However, the school has severely punished the students' inappropriate behavior, provided counseling, and will continue to monitor them. The TPA reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards e-cigarettes, drugs, and all illegal or disciplinary violations, and will continue to strengthen legal education and anti-drug advocacy.
