(Central News Agency, Lima, 9th, Combined Foreign Reports) Peru held the second round of its presidential election on the 7th, and the race is extremely tight. Bernardo Pachas, head of Peru's National Election Jury, told AFP that the election results are expected to be announced between two weeks from now and the end of the month.

According to AFP, the race is between incumbent left-wing congressman Roberto Sanchez and Keiko Fujimori, the daughter of former dictator Alberto Fujimori. With approximately 18 million votes counted, Sanchez leads by only about 20,000 votes, making the outcome highly uncertain.

Many voters hope this election will end years of political turmoil in Peru. Many of Peru's recent presidents have faced imprisonment, removal from office, or impeachment. Regardless of who wins, they will become Peru's ninth president in ten years.

The vote count for the first round of Peru's presidential election took more than 30 days to complete.
