(Central News Agency, Taipei, June 9) A frontal system accompanied by a southwesterly air current brought abundant rainfall. The Water Resources Agency (WRA) stated that this rainfall event is expected to provide nearly 250 million tons of water, of which approximately 130 million tons have already been stored in reservoirs. Among these, the estimated total inflow into the Nanhua, Zengwen, and Wushantou reservoirs exceeds 80 million tons.

According to WRA statistics, from 7:00 AM on June 4 to 3:00 PM on June 9, this rainfall event is expected to provide nearly 250 million tons of water. Of this, about 130 million tons have already entered storage, with an estimated 110 million tons expected to be stored in the future. The estimated inflows for major southern reservoirs are approximately 4.7 million tons for the Lantan and Renyitan reservoirs, 50 million tons for the Zengwen and Wushantou reservoirs, and 31.5 million tons for the Nanhua Reservoir.

The WRA explained that during the aforementioned statistical period, the storage volume of the Lantan and Renyitan reservoirs increased from 6.53 million tons to 8.54 million tons; the Zengwen and Wushantou reservoirs rose from 53.97 million tons to 79.34 million tons; and the Nanhua Reservoir increased from 17.1 million tons to 28.56 million tons.

According to the WRA's official website, as of 7:00 AM, the water storage rate of the Wushantou Reservoir was 18.4%, and the Nanhua Reservoir was 33.3%. As of 5:00 PM, the water storage rate of the Zengwen Reservoir was 14.2%.

Furthermore, according to the WRA's official website, as of 4:00 PM, the turbidity of the Gaoping River Weir was approximately 3,400 NTU. The WRA stated that this has not yet reached the turbidity warning level of 10,000 NTU, and currently, Taiwan Water Corporation can still stably draw water based on the treatment capacity of its purification plants.

The WRA stated that to proactively address the high turbidity situation in the Gaoping River, the Southern Region Water Resources Branch has activated the Nanhua-Gaoping Interconnection Pipeline to deliver 250,000 tons of water per day. Additionally, riverbank filtration facilities at Xingtian, Xipu, and Daquan are currently operational, providing approximately 285,000 tons of water per day. There is still spare capacity in the riverbank filtration system, which has not been fully activated, and it will be deployed flexibly based on changes in the Gaoping River's turbidity and water supply demands.

Combined with existing groundwater backup sources of approximately 450,000 tons per day and the Nanhua-Gaoping Interconnection Pipeline's ability to dispatch a maximum of about 400,000 tons of water per day as needed, the stability of the water supply will not be affected by the increase in turbidity of the Gaoping River.
