(Central News Agency, reporter Yang Yao-ru, Taipei, 9th) A delegation from the French National Assembly visited Taiwan. When receiving them, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung stated that Taiwan and France's advantageous industries are complementary, making them the best partners for cooperation. He particularly noted that Taiwan holds the key to the Artificial Intelligence (AI) industry chain and can help Europe achieve its goals of "rearmament" and "reindustrialization."
In a Facebook post, Lin Chia-lung said he received the delegation led by Estelle Youssouffa, Secretary of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the French National Assembly, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday, thanking them for their concrete actions in support of Taiwan. When China obstructed President Lai Ching-te's visit to Eswatini in April this year, Youssouffa was among the first to publicly express support for Taiwan on social media. Thomas Gassilloud, Vice President of the National Assembly's Defense Industry Study Group, who accompanied the delegation, also emphasized defending freedom of navigation in the Taiwan Strait and international law.
Lin pointed out that investment and trade between Taiwan and France have been increasing in recent years, and technological cooperation has become closer. The Taiwanese government is promoting the "Five Trusted Industries" proposed by President Lai, and France will be one of Taiwan's best international cooperation partners. Specifically, Taiwan's mastery of the AI industry chain can help Europe achieve its goals of "rearmament" and "reindustrialization."
Lin stated that France leads the world in aerospace, satellite communications, and energy industries, while Taiwan leads globally in semiconductors and AI. The advantageous industries of both sides are complementary, making them the best partners. He expressed hope that Taiwan and France will continue to deepen exchanges and industrial cooperation, creating a "one plus one is greater than two" effect.
Lin's post also conveyed that both lawmakers are optimistic about the potential for Taiwan-France industrial cooperation. Youssouffa mentioned that her constituency, Mayotte, is located in the Indian Ocean, not far from Mozambique in Africa. For Taiwanese companies, investing in Mayotte not only provides the protection of the EU system but also serves as a gateway to the African market.
Gassilloud stated that deepening Taiwan's economic and trade relations with France means further connecting to the European market of 400 million people and the global network of 400 million French speakers. (Editor: Lin Xingmeng) 1150609
