(Central News Agency, Peshawar, 9th Combined Foreign News) Pakistani security officials said today that Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militants attacked a checkpoint in the northwest, killing 6 paramilitary personnel and kidnapping 8 people.

A security official told AFP that dozens of TTP members armed with guns, grenades, and mortar shells raided a checkpoint in Peshawar city yesterday. The official spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak to the media.

Another security official said: "Six personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC) were martyred in the attack by militants, and four others were injured."

The Frontier Corps is a paramilitary force that assists in securing the frontier of the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which borders Afghanistan.

The official also noted: "The militants kidnapped 8 Frontier Corps personnel and took them to an unknown location."

The TTP released photos of the kidnapped personnel on its social media channels and claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Pakistani military continues to crack down on increasingly rampant insurgent forces in the western region bordering Afghanistan. Pakistani authorities accuse Afghanistan of harboring militants, but the Afghan Taliban government in Kabul has repeatedly denied these allegations.

Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have deteriorated sharply in recent months over militant-related allegations, with diplomatic tensions escalating into deadly cross-border clashes, including Pakistani airstrikes inside Afghan territory.
