An investigation found no evidence of alcohol or drug impairment, and police are working to clarify the cause of the accident.
The Dongshi Precinct of the Taichung City Police Department explained that around 10 PM on the 8th, a man surnamed Zhang was driving a small truck from the Shigang direction on Fengshi Road towards Fengyuan. When turning onto Mingde Road at the intersection of Fengshi Road and Mingde Road in Shigang District, the vehicle is suspected to have lost control due to hydroplaning, crashing into the road median and knocking down a streetlight.
Police stated that after the accident, officers immediately arrived at the scene to manage traffic. Members of the local Shigang District Jiufangli Neighborhood Watch team also assisted with traffic control.
Police indicated that the accident resulted in minor injuries to Mr. Zhang and a passenger in the vehicle. They were sent to the hospital for treatment and are not in life-threatening condition. Police administered a breathalyzer test to Mr. Zhang, which showed no alcohol reaction. His driver's license was valid, and no evidence related to drug-impaired driving was found at the scene. The cause of the accident and liability will be further investigated and clarified by the police.
The Dongshi Precinct urges drivers to slow down and pay attention to road conditions when driving through curves, intersections, or turns.
