The Central Weather Administration stated that due to the stationary front and southwest air currents, today is the most significant period of heavy rainfall in this event. The Taichung City Government stated that it established a Level 3 flood response center yesterday afternoon, and relevant departments are on high alert.
Chairing the municipal meeting today, Deputy Mayor Cheng said that Mayor Lu, while visiting Germany, continues to monitor the rainfall situation in Taichung and has instructed that the highest principle is citizen safety, requiring careful response. The city government comprehensively evaluated rainfall amounts, mountain road safety, soil loosening, and subsequent rainfall risks. After discussions with the Heping District Office, it announced work and class suspensions for Heping District.
Deputy Mayor Cheng pointed out that as of this morning, rainfall has been mainly concentrated in the mountainous areas. The city government carefully assessed the situation and, applying a lenient standard, announced the suspension of work and classes in Heping District. Preparations for various pumping equipment, disaster relief machinery, personnel, and traffic contingency plans have been completed. Patrols and reporting have been strengthened to strictly prevent the impact of heavy rain.
Deputy Mayor Cheng reminded the public that rainfall is currently concentrated in mountainous areas. He urged citizens and tourists who planned to go hiking, sightseeing, or engage in outdoor activities in the mountains to prioritize their own safety and avoid going up the mountains. Additionally, due to heavy rain in the mountains, some mountain roads are closed to traffic, and bus routes and the Happiness Bus service have also been adjusted. The public is advised to stay updated with the latest information and comply with relevant controls.
The city government stated that coastal areas and urban districts may still experience localized flooding due to short-duration, heavy rainfall. Patrols and reporting have been strengthened through district offices, neighborhood systems, and the disaster prevention network. Citizens are also reminded to immediately report any disasters such as flooding or fallen trees to relevant units for timely处置.
The Fire Bureau explained that in coordination with the city's activation of the Level 3 response center, a 24-hour response mechanism has been initiated, and inspections of pumps, generators, water rescue equipment, and lighting equipment have been completed. Due to recent heavy rainfall in mountainous areas, soil is prone to loosening, and streams may swell rapidly. The Fire Bureau reminded the public to avoid engaging in mountain climbing or water activities in mountainous areas to ensure their own safety. (Editor: Hsiao Po-wen) 1150609
