Cuban President Discusses US Pressure Tactics, Outlines Three Scenarios

(Central News Agency, Havana, 9th Combined Foreign Reports) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel, in an interview published today, pointed out that the United States is considering three possible scenarios to pressure Cuba: inciting social unrest, controlling the economy, or launching military action.

According to AFP, Diaz-Canel made these remarks in an interview with the Spanish digital news platform elDiario.es, at a time when Cuba is facing an increasingly severe economic crisis due to fuel blockades and intensified sanctions imposed by US President Donald Trump.

Diaz-Canel stated, "They are betting on three scenarios... One scenario is to provoke social unrest through economic strangulation, and then use this social unrest as a pretext for intervention under the guise of humanitarian aid."

He said the second scenario is "to continue coercive dialogue with Cuba, attempting to take control of the Cuban economy with immense pressure, economically occupy the country, and then have the opportunity to trigger political system change, which is the ultimate goal of the United States."

In recent weeks, the US has pressured several foreign companies to cease operations in Cuba, threatening sanctions against any company that does business with state-owned enterprises.

Washington has also imposed a new wave of sanctions on Diaz-Canel and his family, as well as members of the Castro family.

Diaz-Canel said, "The third scenario is military aggression." He emphasized that all three possibilities have been mentioned by Trump and "constantly appear in the statements of the US Secretary of State," referring to Cuban-American Marco Rubio.

Facing the possibility of military action, Diaz-Canel stressed that Cuba has the right to prepare for self-defense to ensure it is "not caught off guard" and does not "suffer defeat." (Editor: He Hongru) 1150609
