(Central News Agency reporter Yang Shu-min, Taipei, June 9) Taipei City's Department of Labor announced today that 376 companies have responded to its childcare reduced-work-hour plan, which was first launched nationwide in March. Participating companies include well-known enterprises such as Far Eastern SOGO, Unilever, and Uni-President (7-ELEVEN). The department also expressed hope that the central government will implement its similar policy as soon as possible.

The Executive Yuan and the Presidential Office announced a new strategy for Taiwan's population policy on May 27. The strategy includes a measure allowing workers with children under 12 to apply for a one-hour reduction in work hours for childcare. If the employer agrees, the government will provide full subsidies.

Taipei City's Department of Labor released statistical information on the childcare reduced-work-hour plan, which it has been promoting since March. As of June 9, 376 companies have responded, including Far Eastern SOGO, Unilever, and Uni-President 7-ELEVEN.
