(Central News Agency, Jerusalem, 8th Combined Foreign Reports) An Israeli military officer said that Iran has fired nearly 30 missiles at Israel since last night, the first exchange of fire between the two countries since the April ceasefire.
According to AFP, the officer told reporters today: "The Iranian regime began launching ballistic missiles at Israel last night... They fired nearly 30 ballistic missiles at Israel."
He added that the Iran-backed Yemeni Houthi rebels separately fired two missiles at Israel.
The Israeli military said earlier today that it had carried out retaliatory strikes on several targets at a petrochemical complex in Mahshahr, southwestern Iran.
The officer stated: "The complex produces chemicals used in ballistic missiles, the ones fired here, at Israel. This strike and the damage to the complex disrupt their ability to manufacture various types of weapons."
According to the Israeli military, they also attacked Iran's air defense systems.
The officer also noted that the Chief of Staff of the Israel Defense Forces, Eyal Zamir, spoke twice with the commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) over the past day, but did not provide further details.
AFP reporters reported that air raid sirens sounded across large areas of northern and central Israel today, and explosions were heard over Jerusalem earlier today.
This is the first such exchange of fire between the two countries since the ceasefire in the Middle East war was announced on April 8th. (Editor: Yang Zhaoyan) 1150608
