(CNA, Reporter Wu Che-hao, Changhua, 8th) Wei Ping-cheng, the Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) candidate for Changhua County Magistrate, said today that he comes from traditional industries and understands the problems and difficulties they face. He believes that if elected, he can help solve these issues. He also stated that he does not belong to any faction and has no enemies in Changhua, but admitted that his low name recognition is something he needs to work on.

In an online program interview alongside KMT Changhua County chapter chairman Hsiao Ching-tien, Wei Ping-cheng said he is serious about everything he does and wants to turn around even impossible situations. He recalled that four years ago, Hsiao had asked if he was willing to serve as the chapter chairman and then run for county magistrate, which surprised and flattered him at the time. Four years later, with his family and career stable, he began to consider what he, as a son of Changhua, could do for the county.

He noted that traditional industries are facing bottlenecks and an inability to break through due to U.S. tariffs and the Russia-Ukraine war, leading many factories to close. Coming from this background, he felt he could do something for society and the country, which led him to ask Hsiao again about the opportunity to run for magistrate, resulting in Hsiao's recommendation.

Wei stated that his nomination by the KMT was the result of a rigorous evaluation by the party's central committee. He mentioned that KMT Chairwoman Cheng Li-wen spoke with him for one to two hours, asking in great detail about his vision, background, and even how he planned to integrate various factions.

He said that others, like former Changhua Mayor Chiu Chien-fu, also want to run, but from his perspective, it's a personal choice. He believes it's not important who runs; what matters is that he can present concrete proposals (beef) to win the recognition and support of voters.

Wei expressed that during Changhua County Magistrate Wang Huei-mei's eight-year tenure, Changhua has seen remarkable progress in construction. If he is elected, he will continue to push for the extension of the Taichung MRT to Changhua or Lukang Township and promote the elevation of the railway in Changhua City.
