Front and Southwesterly Flow Bring Heavy Rain; 10 Counties/Cities on Alert, Mountainous Areas of Kaohsiung and Pingtung Warned of Extreme Rain

(Central News Agency, Taipei, June 9) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a heavy rain advisory. Due to the influence of a stationary front and southwesterly flow, short-duration, intense rainfall is expected. Today (June 9), localized heavy or extremely heavy rain is forecast for the mountainous areas of Kaohsiung City and Pingtung County.

The CWA also indicated that localized heavy or extremely heavy rain is possible in Taoyuan City, the mountainous areas of Miaoli County, Taichung City, Nantou County, Yunlin County, Chiayi County, Tainan City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung County, and the mountainous areas of Taitung County. Localized heavy rain is also likely in other areas and Penghu.

The administration reminded the public to be cautious of lightning and strong winds, to watch for landslides, falling rocks, debris flows, and rising river levels in mountainous areas, and to be alert for flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas. (Editor: Chen Yanjun) 1150609
