(Central News Agency, Reporter Xie Yixuan, Taipei, June 8) Recently, a netizen posted an altered screenshot of the Ministry of Economic Affairs' official website on Facebook, falsely claiming, under the guise of Taipower, that regional power rationing would be implemented. Taipower stated that the reserve margin rate on that day was 22.58%, indicating ample power supply, and condemned the malicious spread of disinformation, announcing it had filed a lawsuit with the Taipei District Prosecutors Office.

In a press release on June 8, Taipower explained that an online rumor appeared on Facebook on June 3. A netizen had altered the Ministry of Economic Affairs' official website screen to create a fake image, and under the guise of Taipower, falsely claimed that some areas of Taiwan would experience regional power rationing.

Taipower strongly condemned the malicious creation and dissemination of disinformation that causes social panic, stating it had filed a lawsuit with the Taipei District Prosecutors Office on June 8. It also urged the public not to break the law by creating or spreading rumors.

Taipower clarified that on the day the rumor was posted online, the peak electricity demand across Taiwan reached 39.347 million kilowatts, with a reserve margin rate of 22.58% and nearly 9 million kilowatts of reserve capacity, indicating no issues with power supply.

Taipower emphasized that in response to high summer temperatures and increased electricity demand, it continues to ensure stable power supply through diverse dispatch measures including pumped-storage hydropower, energy storage systems, and demand-side management. (Editor: Lin Kelun) 1150608
