The Hsinchu City Fire Bureau released information stating that the bureau received a report from a citizen at 3:52 AM, indicating a suspected gas leak at a residence on Gaocui Road, East District, Hsinchu City. Firefighters arrived at the scene at 4:05 AM and reported a major explosion at 4:08 AM, prompting the dispatch of additional personnel for rescue operations.
Hsinchu City Mayor Ann Kao stated in a Facebook post that the gas explosion caused road obstructions from debris. The Public Works and Environmental Protection Departments have deployed machinery and personnel to the scene. Coordinating with fire and police controls, they will clear obstacles and clean up the environment as soon as safety is confirmed to minimize the impact on public traffic.
Mayor Kao stated that this incident has resulted in injuries to multiple citizens who have been sent to the hospital for treatment. Additionally, two citizens were in a state of OHCA when rescued. Upon arrival at the hospital, the medical team is making every effort to resuscitate them.
She said the city government has instructed the Department of Civil Affairs, the Department of Social Affairs, and the East District Office to immediately activate care and temporary安置 mechanisms. They will proactively contact the injured and their families to provide medical assistance, emergency relief, temporary shelter, and subsequent necessary social welfare resources to support the families.
The Hsinchu City Police Department stated that it has strengthened traffic diversion, on-site control, and public security maintenance in the vicinity to ensure a clear path for rescue operations.
