(Central News Agency, reporter Wu Ruichi, Taoyuan, 8th) A man surnamed Yeh (26) was suspected of smoking ketamine in his car in the early hours of the 8th in Taoyuan City. He was discovered by patrolling police officers, refused to be questioned, and attempted to drive away. Police took enforcement action, subduing and arresting him. Ketamine, drug-laced coffee packets, and other evidence were found in the car. He was subsequently transferred to the prosecutor's office in accordance with the law.
Lin Zhixuan, Chief of Longan Police Station, Taoyuan Precinct, Taoyuan City Police Bureau, said in a media interview that officers were on patrol around 1:10 AM. While passing through an alley on Zhongshan Road in Taoyuan District, they spotted a suspicious car parked on the roadside. Upon approaching for a check, they found Yeh (26) sitting in the driver's seat, apparently smoking the third-level narcotic ketamine. They immediately ordered him to get out of the car for inspection.
Chief Lin stated that Yeh refused to comply and suddenly stepped on the accelerator, attempting to flee. To prevent him from crashing into others or escaping and endangering other road users, officers jointly pulled Yeh out of the car, subdued, and arrested him. A search of the vehicle uncovered contraband items including ketamine and drug-laced coffee packets, along with related evidence. The case was later transferred for investigation under the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act, and authorities are continuing to trace the source of the drugs.
The Taoyuan Precinct stated that drugs not only harm physical and mental health but that driving under the influence of drugs can cause major traffic accidents, seriously threatening public safety. Statistics show that the Taoyuan Precinct has handled 121 cases of drug-impaired driving so far this year. It will continue to strengthen efforts to crack down on drugs and cases endangering public safety, fully committed to maintaining the public security environment and the safety of citizens' lives and property.
