(Central News Agency reporter He Xiuling, Taipei, June 8) The 2026 Asia BioTech Convention will take place from July 15 to 19. The highly anticipated investment forum will focus on investment strategy trends, featuring an international and diversified format that attracts top-tier venture capital, family offices, corporate venture capital (CVC), and investment banks from Europe, the Americas, and Asia to Taiwan.
The Asia BioTech Convention announced today via a press release that it has specially invited Pehong Chen, founder of BroadVision (USA), to deliver a keynote speech titled "The Top Five AI Commandments." This will be a highlight of the event, during which 27 startups will compete in a roadshow to win strategic investment favor.
Facing environmental changes, Ma Haiyi, Vice Chairman of the Taiwan Bio Industry Association, stated that the era of precision investment has arrived. In recent years, venture capital has shifted from passively waiting for targets to a "Venture Creation" model, where investors first identify specific market application needs and then actively seek suitable investment targets. This allows for deep injection of capital and talent resources, strongly guiding the survival and development strategy of a company's product line.
Tseng Hui-chin, Managing Director of the Taiwan Bio Industry Development Association, pointed out that as global large pharmaceutical companies continue to face the pressure of the patent cliff, seeking growth through external innovation has become mainstream. The demand for technology licensing, co-development, strategic investment, and M&A has surged, making Asia a source of innovative technology for multinational pharmaceutical companies.
Tseng said that Taiwan's capital market is also showing strong support. With the implementation of the "Regenerative Medicine Dual Act" this year and the government's "Healthy Taiwan" policy being fully promoted, as of the second quarter of this year, over 10 biotech and medical device companies have planned to enter the capital market.
This year's biotech investment forum will be held on the afternoon of July 15 and the morning of July 16, focusing on three main themes: "Strategic Investment," "Global Trends," and "Building Successful MedTech Investments." Interspersed throughout will be company roadshows from 27 startups—15 pharmaceutical and 12 medical device companies—selected from dozens of domestic and international candidates, vying for the attention of top-tier international investment institutions.
The Asia BioTech Convention noted that in recent years, AI technology has been deeply integrated into the pharmaceutical and biotech fields, breaking the traditional long R&D cycle of the biotech industry. This transformation has also attracted the attention of many IT industry investors. This year's keynote speaker, Pehong Chen, has been investing in biotech startups in recent years, with investments spanning medical devices and new drug R&D in Taiwan and other regions.
