(Central News Agency reporter Wu Ruiqi, Taoyuan, 8th) A man surnamed Hsieh in Taoyuan City was fined NT$180,000 for driving without a license and refusing a breathalyzer test. Because he failed to pay within the deadline, the case was transferred to the Taoyuan Branch of the Administrative Enforcement Agency, Ministry of Justice for execution. The Taoyuan Branch recently discovered that he had a stable salary and initiated wage garnishment. Worried that it would affect his new job, Hsieh proactively paid off the remaining debt of NT$148,265.
The Administrative Enforcement Agency, Taoyuan Branch issued a press release today stating that Hsieh (47 years old) from Xinwu District was stopped by police while driving in Wanhua District, Taipei City in July 2021 (Year 110 of the Republic of China). Because he was driving without a license and refused to take a breathalyzer test, the Taipei City Traffic Adjudication Office imposed a fine of NT$180,000 and banned him from applying for a driver's license for three years starting from May 12, 2022 (Year 111). As he did not pay within the deadline, the case was transferred to the Taoyuan Branch for enforcement in June 2022 (Year 111).
The Taoyuan Branch stated that after accepting the case, it continuously tracked Hsieh's assets. Between 2022 and 2026 (Years 111 to 115), it executed multiple seizures of his bank deposits but only recovered over NT$30,000. Recently, it was discovered that Hsieh had found a new job with a fixed salary income, and the branch immediately legally garnished his wages. Fearing that his company would learn about the enforcement action, damaging his workplace image and job opportunities, Hsieh voluntarily went to the branch on June 4th to pay off the remaining NT$148,265 in full.
Furthermore, the Taoyuan Branch pointed out that enforcement officers also explained the dangers of drunk driving and related legal responsibilities to Hsieh that day. Hsieh subsequently applied for a referral to alcohol addiction treatment, hoping to overcome his alcohol dependence and maintain stable employment.
The Taoyuan Branch urges the public to comply with traffic regulations. Upon receiving notices for fines or taxes, they should pay within the deadline to avoid administrative enforcement affecting their property rights and interests.
