The Central Weather Administration (CWA) announced that due to the influence of a stationary front and southwesterly flow, large-scale heavy rain operations were initiated this afternoon. It predicts that June 9 and 10 will be the two most significant rainfall days of the coming week, with particular attention needed for localized torrential rain or above in the central and southern mountainous areas. CWA forecaster Huang En-hung told Central News Agency that under the influence of the stationary front and southwesterly flow, the rainfall will be most significant on the 9th and 10th, meaning the 'large-scale or severe heavy rain event enhanced operations' initiated today will continue at least until the 10th. Whether it will be extended will depend on the rainfall situation. Huang stated that on the 9th and 10th, short-duration heavy rainfall is likely across Taiwan. The western half, Yilan area, and mountainous areas of Hualien and Taitung will experience showers or thunderstorms, with heavy or localized torrential rain. Particular vigilance is needed for localized torrential rain or above in central and southern mountainous areas. Huang pointed out that on the 11th, the front will move south to the Bashi Channel, easing rainfall in the north, but central and southern areas will still have occasional showers or thunderstorms with localized heavy rain. Other areas will also see occasional showers or thunderstorms. However, Huang mentioned that from the 12th to the 15th, the stationary front is expected to move north again, bringing occasional showers or thunderstorms to the western half and eastern mountainous areas, with localized heavy or torrential rain. Huang said that after the 16th, the front is forecast to move north to the sea north of Taiwan, reducing rainfall in the northern and eastern areas and bringing relatively stable weather. However, with continued southwesterly winds, central and southern areas will still experience occasional showers or thunderstorms. The forecast still has uncertainties, and the CWA will continue to monitor the situation.
