Soochow University Data Science Department Hosts Smart Car Competition to Test AI Application Skills

(Central News Agency, reporter Xu Zhiwei, Taipei, June 8) In response to the development trend of AI robotics, Soochow University's Department of Data Science will hold the 'JETBOT Machine Learning Road Recognition Competition' on the 23rd. Through a hands-on smart car competition, it aims to cultivate students' application abilities in machine learning, computer vision, and smart robotics.

Soochow University stated in a press release today that with COMPUTEX 2026 focusing on AI infrastructure, physical AI, and robotics applications, and NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang revealing the Vera Rubin next-generation architecture and smart robotics strategy in his speech, it shows that AI is moving from generative applications to the physical world, capable of sensing the environment, understanding context, and executing tasks.

Echoing this technological development trend, the Department of Data Science at Soochow University's Big Data Management School, in collaboration with the CAVEDU education team, will co-host the 'JETBOT Machine Learning Road Recognition Competition' on the 23rd. The competition uses the NVIDIA JetBot smart car as a platform. Participating teams must go through processes such as image collection, data annotation, model training, system deployment, and road testing to build a road recognition model, enabling the JetBot to autonomously identify the road environment and complete designated track challenges. The competition content emphasizes not only programming and model training but also the complete journey of AI from data to application deployment.

The organizers expressed their hope that through task-oriented and competition-based learning, students will understand computer vision, deep learning, edge computing, and smart autonomous driving technologies, and develop problem-solving, system integration, and innovative application skills through teamwork. Teams that complete registration according to regulations will receive a participation certificate, and the top three teams in the competition will be awarded prizes and certificates.
