(Central News Agency, reporter Wu Zhehao, Changhua, 8th) In Changhua County, a man surnamed Shih, driving under the influence of drugs, crashed into Police Captain Chen, causing fractures to both of his legs. Shih later visited the hospital with a fruit basket, but the captain's family felt terrified and could not understand how Shih knew the ward number. They emphasized that no gesture of sincerity from him would be sufficient.

The Xihu Police Precinct of the Changhua County Police Bureau stated that at around 2 PM on the 4th, officers were conducting an inquiry on Shih on Guangming Road, Section 2, Puyan Township. Shih drove into a dead-end alley and refused to comply. He then suddenly reversed his car, ramming into the officers in an attempt to escape, causing Captain Chen to suffer leg injuries. Shih was arrested on the spot, and his drug test result was positive.

Prosecutors from the Changhua District Prosecutors Office charged Shih with obstruction of official duties and endangering public safety, and requested his detention from the Changhua District Court, but the request was denied. Captain Chen's daughter posted on social media, stating that while her father was still hospitalized, the suspect came uninvited, barging into her father's ward with a fruit basket, plunging the entire family into extreme fear.

Captain Chen's daughter further appealed to the judge, saying, "Look, this is the sincerity the suspect promised. I hope you can restore justice and vindicate my father."

Captain Chen's son said in a phone interview with media today that they had heard Shih might visit, but they were surprised he knew the ward number. He added, "My father's legs were run over. No amount of sincerity seems enough for us."

The son also said, "My father worked very hard to catch a drug offender, but the suspect was released quickly and can go back to his life. Meanwhile, my father just had surgery and his legs will take months to recover. It feels very unfair."

A reporter called the Changhua District Prosecutors Office this morning, and the office said it would file an appeal as soon as possible in the afternoon. (Editor: Lin Shuhui)
