(Central News Agency reporter Li Huiting, Pingtung County, 8th) Affected by a stationary front and southwestern air currents, the Pingtung County Disaster Response Center was activated at Level 3 at 4 PM today. County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi visited the Tuku and Daren detention ponds in Ligang to inspect drainage conditions and urged that the next two days will be the peak of rainfall, calling for heightened vigilance.
At 3 PM, Chou inspected the Tuku drainage project in Ligang and received a briefing. The County Government's Water Resources Department stated that local residents reported frequent flooding near the Wuming Bridge during heavy rain. Because the Tuku drainage channel is a single-channel waterway, sediment is mostly distributed on both sides. An investment of approximately NT$41.97 million was made to renovate the channel cross-section over a total length of 475 meters. Measures included widening and raising the existing revetment, increasing channel dredging capacity, and restoring flood discharge capability. Construction progress exceeds 80%, and the project has effectively improved local flooding conditions.
Chou then visited the Daren detention pond in Yanpu Township. This project is part of the Wuluo River Daren Drainage Branch Line improvement project, with a total drainage length of 3,807 meters. A new 15.3-hectare detention pond was established, and all three phases of construction have been fully completed. Since its activation, the facility has withstood typhoons such as Gaemi and Krathon, with cumulative rainfall reaching up to 1,000 millimeters. The Daren Drainage Branch Line has not experienced flooding, effectively resolving the chronic flooding issue in the Daren University of Science and Technology area during heavy rain.
Chou stated, "The rain in Pingtung has been intermittent over the past few days, and the next two days will be the most significant peak of this rainfall. We must remain highly vigilant. The team has thoroughly implemented flood prevention preparations. We are also monitoring water conditions across the region through the Smart Water Information Center to ensure preventive and responsive measures are in place, safeguarding the lives and property of our residents."
The County Government's Water Resources Department announced that all flood prevention preparations for water conservancy facilities across the county have been completed. This includes inspections of 1,151 water conservancy structures within its jurisdiction to ensure the effectiveness of drainage pumping and the stable operation of flood prevention facilities.
