2026 World Cup Key News

(CPHAGEN, Combined Foreign Reports, June 7) Danish footballer Christian Eriksen, 34, collapsed suddenly during an international friendly match against Ukraine today. Fortunately, after receiving emergency treatment, he regained consciousness, was able to walk off the pitch on his own, and is currently in stable condition.

According to AFP, Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during a Euro 2020 match five years ago, shocking the world.

The match was held in Odense, Denmark. In the 64th minute, Eriksen, who has a pacemaker, collapsed suddenly. The medical team rushed onto the field to provide treatment, while players from both sides formed a human shield to block the view.

Denmark was leading 2-1 at the time, and the referee immediately suspended the match.

After several minutes of treatment, Eriksen regained consciousness and walked off the field accompanied by others to receive hospital treatment.

The Danish Football Union posted on social media: "Eriksen is conscious and his condition is good."

In 2021, Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest during a Euro 2020 match against Finland. After various examinations, he received an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) and took a break for over six months.

Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen stated that Eriksen's condition is "good."

He revealed: "In my judgment, Eriksen's pacemaker is functioning normally. He briefly lost consciousness on the field but quickly regained it. The medical team was able to establish contact with him promptly. He will undergo further examinations at the hospital to clarify the cause of this incident."

Boesen also said that Eriksen asked him to convey his regards to all the players and tell everyone he is fine.

Denmark national team coach Brian Riemer described it as an "extremely shocking experience" for everyone.

Nicklas Bendtner, a former Danish national team striker from the 2010 World Cup, said the incident was "very bad" but was relieved that Eriksen regained consciousness quickly.

He said: "The most important thing is that he could walk off the field himself, which means the situation was probably okay at that moment. But this is the second time it has happened, and as his friend, it is really hard." (Editor: Liu Wenyu) 1150608
