(Central News Agency, Chiayi City, 8th, Reporter Huang Guofang) In response to the potential for heavy rainfall from a stationary front and southwest air currents, the Chiayi City Government has dispatched personnel to intensify ditch cleaning and road drain cleaning in over 70 flood-prone areas, prepared sandbags, and completed the deployment of mobile pumps to safeguard public safety.
The Chiayi City Government issued a press release today stating that in response to recent changes in weather systems and the potential for heavy rainfall, the city has activated relevant flood prevention preparedness mechanisms, maintains close contact with central government agencies, continuously monitors the latest weather information and water conditions, and is ready for disaster response at any time.
The city government stated that the Public Works Department and the Environmental Protection Bureau continue to carry out maintenance and dredging operations for various drainage facilities to enhance drainage capacity. As of this year, the dredging and cleaning length of regional drainage and storm sewer systems has exceeded 25 kilometers, with a dredging volume of 1,576 truckloads, effectively improving the drainage system's conveyance capacity and reducing the risk of flooding during heavy rain.
The Environmental Protection Bureau stated that in preparation for potential rainfall from this wave of southwest air currents, personnel have been dispatched to intensify ditch cleaning and road drain cleaning in over 70 flood-prone areas.
The city government explained that the two pumping stations, Hunei and Houhu, as well as 33 large mobile pumps, have all completed equipment inspections, maintenance, and operational tests. Of these, 21 large mobile pumps have been pre-deployed for emergency response during rainfall.
Additionally, the city government has prepared sandbags and delivered them to designated temporary locations in the East and West District offices for citizens to pick up conveniently, aiding flood prevention preparations for residents in low-lying areas.
The Public Works Department urges citizens to help keep their household drains clear and remove debris from drain grates in front of their homes. If blockages or siltation are found in drains, citizens can immediately report to the neighborhood office or call the 1999 Citizen Service Hotline, and the city government will dispatch personnel promptly.
