Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Wu Jau-shieh stated at a luncheon on the 8th that maintaining a free and democratic Taiwan aligns with South Korea's national interests and expressed hope for expanding cooperation in various fields. South Korean lawmaker Park Soo-young noted that Taiwan's industrial and economic experience could provide important insights for South Korea.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release on the evening of the 8th stating that Wu Jau-shieh hosted a luncheon for the South Korean cross-party parliamentary delegation that day. The delegation included key lawmakers such as Park Soo-young of the People Power Party, Kwak Sang-eon of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Kim Jae-won of the Fatherland Innovation Party. During the luncheon, they engaged in in-depth exchanges on topics including Taiwan-South Korea relations, jointly addressing geopolitical challenges, political, economic, and cultural exchanges, and the development of the semiconductor and artificial intelligence (AI) industries.
Wu stated that Taiwan and South Korea are both democratic nations resisting the expansion of authoritarianism, and the two countries have a solid foundation for cooperation in areas such as culture, trade, and semiconductor supply chains. Maintaining a free and democratic Taiwan is in South Korea's national interest, and he expressed hope for the two countries to continue expanding cooperation across diverse fields.
Park Soo-young, who has long followed Taiwan's economic and semiconductor industry development, pointed out that Taiwan's per capita GDP surpassing USD 40,000 offers important lessons for South Korea. Kim Jae-won expressed a desire to explore possibilities for artistic and cultural cooperation with Taiwan through this visit.
