The train driver applied the emergency brake and sounded the horn, but could not stop in time and hit the man. The man suffered a deformed arm and was sent to the hospital unconscious. The train left the scene at 12:00 PM.

According to a press release from the Taichung Branch of the Railway Police Bureau, at 10:40 AM, the Xinwuri Police Station received a report that TRA train 109 had struck a passenger who had fallen onto the tracks on the second track at Xinwuri Station. An investigation found that the man had fallen from the southbound platform for unknown reasons. After the train driver spotted him, he applied the emergency brake and sounded the horn, but could not stop in time to avoid the collision.

The Taichung City Fire Bureau dispatched personnel to the scene, where they found the man still had vital signs. He had a deformed left arm and was unconscious, and was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment. Police completed their evidence collection at 11:45 AM, and the train left the scene at 12:00 PM.

TRA stated that at 10:37 AM, the passenger had intruded onto the tracks at Xinwuri Station and was hit by the 109 Tzu-Chiang Express. The railway police and emergency services were notified and responded to the scene. Southbound trains at Xinwuri Station operated on track 1, and northbound trains operated on track 4, allowing trains to continue running normally.
