Iran fired missiles at Israel in retaliation for an attack on Beirut, Lebanon. The Israeli military warned today that Iran had made a 'grave mistake.'

The Israeli military reported at least three waves of missile attacks today, marking the first time air raid sirens have sounded in Israel proper since a fragile ceasefire between Iran, the US, and Israel was established on April 8.

According to the military, air raid warnings were issued across large areas of northern and central Israel, including the towns of Haifa, Caesarea, and Hadera.

Subsequently, Israeli Defense Forces Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir stated that the military would 'immediately and forcefully strike the enemy' once authorization is granted.

AFP reported that the Israeli military issued several statements in quick succession today, saying it had detected multiple missiles launched from Iran and that all missiles had been intercepted.

The military told AFP that Iran had launched a total of 11 missiles.

Military spokesperson Effie Defrin said in a televised statement, 'The Iranian terrorist regime has again chosen the path of terrorism and made a grave mistake.'

Tehran, meanwhile, said the missile salvo was a 'warning' in response to an Israeli airstrike on the southern suburbs of Beirut earlier today.

Israel said its airstrike earlier today targeted a Hezbollah command center in the southern suburbs of Beirut.

Iran further warned that any further aggression would be met with a 'larger' response, targeting all American and Israeli targets in the region.
