(Central News Agency, Washington, 8th – Combined Foreign Reports) Israel and Iran have clashed for the first time since a ceasefire in April. White House officials said US President Donald Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu today. Netanyahu said that Israel's airstrikes on Iran had prevented further Iranian attacks, leading to a halt in hostilities between the two countries.

According to AFP, tensions have recently been reported between Trump and Netanyahu, with Trump reportedly calling him 'crazy' during a recent phone call.

Iran launched missiles at Israel last night, and Israel retaliated by targeting Iranian military sites, raising fears of a potential new full-scale conflict.

Earlier today, Trump posted on social media, saying, 'Israel and Iran must stop 'firing' immediately.'

Shortly after, Iran announced it was halting new military operations against Israel but warned it would resume strikes if Israel attacked Lebanon again.

A White House official confirmed that Trump and Netanyahu spoke by phone today but provided no further details.

Netanyahu said he told Trump that Israel retains the right to take self-defense action against Iran at any time.

In a televised statement, Netanyahu said, 'The firepower on the front line is now under control. After we struck the terrorist regime in Tehran, they stopped attacking us.'

However, he also warned that if Iran 'makes the mistake of attacking us again, we will respond with full force.'

He said, 'Israel has full right to self-defense, and we will exercise that right when necessary. I say this to everyone, just as I said it in a good conversation with my friend President Trump, with gratitude and respect.' (Editor: Lu Yingzi) 1150609
