(Central News Agency reporter Hong Sujin, Taipei, 8th) The Central News Agency (CNA) held the written and oral exams for the second-round selection of its 9th 'I Am an Overseas Correspondent' series today at CNA headquarters. Thirty-two students participated, competing for internship opportunities at CNA and overseas.
This year, the 'I Am an Overseas Correspondent' program continued its deep engagement on campuses, visiting a total of 21 universities and colleges, with nearly 1,800 faculty and students participating. In April and May, two-day, one-night news training camps were held in Taipei City, Taichung City, and Kaohsiung City, with over 180 students enrolling. The curriculum covered international news trends, news interviewing and writing, audio-visual production, media literacy, and artificial intelligence (AI) application topics, helping students cultivate professional journalism skills and an international perspective.
During the training, through diverse courses and practical experience sharing—ranging from hands-on news operations to international media observation and extending to AI technology and future trends—students were assisted in building cross-disciplinary thinking and enhancing their ability to understand and analyze global issues.
After the training courses and assignment evaluations, 32 outstanding students advanced to the second-round selection. The morning written exam covered current news events, international issues, and an English proficiency test. The afternoon oral exam had judges assess international perspective, news sensitivity, current affairs analysis ability, and foreign language expression skills.
Students who pass the second-round selection are expected to intern at CNA during the summer, participating in actual news interviewing and editing work to gain an in-depth understanding of the operations of a national news agency. After the internship concludes, CNA will select overseas junior correspondents for internships and exchanges abroad, expanding their international horizons through on-the-ground observation and cross-cultural experiences.
CNA stated that the 'I Am an Overseas Correspondent' program has entered its 9th year, continuing to help young students accumulate practical news experience and international perspective through training, internships, and overseas exchange opportunities, cultivating a new generation of talent with cross-cultural communication and media professional skills.
The 9th 'I Am an Overseas Correspondent' series is guided by the Ministry of Culture and sponsored by Chunghwa Telecom Co., Ltd., CTBC Bank, First Commercial Bank, Ever Rich Group, Mega Bank, and the Mega Bank Cultural and Educational Foundation. (Editor: Li Mingzong) 1150608
