(Central News Agency, reporter Chen Rong-Shen, Taipei, 7th) The New Taipei Kings of the Taiwan Professional Basketball League (TPBL) failed to defend their championship. However, team chairman Wang Wen-Hsiang still awarded an additional NT$20 million incentive bonus and shared his own experience of facing death to encourage all members.
Seeking a second consecutive TPBL championship, the Kings, after Taiwanese star Jeremy Lin chose to retire, were not favored but advanced to the championship series against the Formosa Dreamers. They even held a commanding lead, seemingly one step away from the title. Unexpectedly, they lost three consecutive games, including the decisive Game 7 yesterday, ultimately missing the championship trophy.
Nevertheless, Chairman Wang Wen-Hsiang immediately went to the locker room to encourage the staff and players. He affirmed the efforts of the entire coaching staff and players throughout the season and announced an additional NT$20 million incentive bonus on top of the original contract bonuses. He expressed hope that this would build a more cohesive team, allowing every member playing for the Kings to feel a deep sense of belonging, like family.
Wang pointed out that games have winners and losers, and he urged everyone not to be discouraged. He said the current sadness and regret are nutrients for moving forward, and tomorrow is a new day. He encouraged them to always hold their heads high and face every future challenge. "Seeing everyone giving their all, I am always proud of every single person on this team," he said.
Sharing his own experience of facing death, Wang said, "I still overcame the difficulties and am standing before you after 20 years. What is more terrifying than facing death? I think there is nothing. So, relax well during the summer break. Even if you are sad today, there will be joy tomorrow." (Editor: Hsiao Po-Wen) 1150607
