(Chia Chih-ming, Central News Agency, Chiayi County, 7th) A man ran into the Shuishang Police Station of the Chiayi County Police Bureau last night, seeking help from officers. Subsequently, several residents entered the station and accused the man of sideswiping multiple vehicles and fleeing. The man suddenly lost emotional control, and when officers intervened to stop him, they discovered drugs on his person, leading to his immediate arrest as a flagrant offender and transfer to the prosecutor's office.
The Shuishang Police Station issued a press release today stating that when the man faced the residents accusing him of the hit-and-run, he suddenly became mentally unstable and engaged in a verbal altercation with the people at the scene. To prevent the situation from escalating and to ensure the safety of everyone present, officers immediately intervened.
Police said that officers found drug-laced coffee bags (毒品咖啡包) on the suspect at the scene and immediately arrested him as a flagrant offender for drug possession. He was then escorted by ambulance to a hospital under police guard.
The police further stated that subsequent tests confirmed the suspect had used a Level 2 drug, amphetamine (安非他命). The entire case was investigated according to standard procedures for drug-impaired driving and, after the investigation, was transferred to the Chiayi District Prosecutors Office on charges of violating the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act and endangering public safety.
