Ukrainian officials said today that a Russian drone attacked a spent nuclear fuel storage facility near Ukraine's defunct Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, but fortunately, radiation levels at the site remain stable.

Reuters reported that Ukraine's General Staff and the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate each issued statements indicating that a building used for receiving nuclear fuel containers was partially damaged, but no spent nuclear fuel was stored there at the time of the attack.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha posted on social media X, stating, "This is not the first time the Russian military has put Ukraine's nuclear facilities at risk."

Sybiha mentioned, "Russia's use of nuclear blackmail tactics and its threat to nuclear safety are systematic, deliberate, and unacceptable."

Russia has not publicly commented on the allegations of the attack. The targeted facility is located about 15 kilometers from the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, the site of the world's worst nuclear disaster.
