Taiwan Team Appears at 'Tokyo Pride' with Temple and Night Market Theme to Showcase Equality

The '2026 Tokyo Pride' event was held on June 6th and 7th at Yoyogi Park in Tokyo. Over 200 government representatives, corporations, and civil society groups from around the world responded to this year's theme, 'A Future Opened by Diversity and Equality.'

The Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights issued a press release today stating that the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office in Japan, the Taiwan Red Ribbon Foundation, and the Taiwan Alliance to Promote Civil Partnership Rights collaborated to raise the 'TEAM TAIWAN' flag in the parade and booth areas, conveying Taiwan's voice for equality to the international community under the name 'Taiwan.'

Representative to Japan, Li Yi-yang, stated in his speech that Taiwan, as a constitutional democracy, has ranked among the top internationally in gender equality indices since legalizing same-sex marriage in 2019. Taiwan is willing to make friends with the world based on the values of democracy, human rights, and gender equality, and welcomes all international friends who support equality and LGBTI dignity to visit Taiwan and personally experience the local scenery where diversity and equality are integrated into daily life.

The press release noted that the Red Ribbon Foundation and the Alliance participated for the 6th time this year. They specifically used 'temples and night markets' as the exhibition theme, cleverly rewriting the traditional temple zodiac fortune chart from a gender equality perspective and incorporating key historical events in Taiwan's promotion of gender human rights.
