(Central News Agency, Penghu County, June 7) The Coast Guard Administration's Fleet Branch, in coordination with National Oceans Day, docked the 1,000-ton patrol vessel 'Lienchiang' at Pier 1 of Magong Commercial Port today, attracting a large crowd of citizens to board and tour the ship, enhancing their understanding and recognition of coast guard and marine conservation work.
The Penghu Coast Guard Team of the Fleet Branch organized a themed event, 'Walking with the Sea, Imagining the Future,' and opened the 1,000-ton patrol vessel 'Lienchiang' to the public for the first time at Pier 1 of Magong Commercial Port. Coast Guard Team Leader Chen Yung-feng, Deputy Team Leader Chen Fu-jung, and Lienchiang Ship Captain Huang Tsung-cheng were on board to explain the vessel to visitors, allowing the public to get a close-up look at the coast guard's working environment. A detection dog also made its debut.
The Penghu Coast Guard Team stated that the 'Lienchiang,' with a total tonnage of over 2,400 tons, is a new 1,000-ton class patrol vessel built under the government's indigenous shipbuilding policy and the 'Forward-looking Plan for the Construction of Coast Guard Vessels' to safeguard national maritime sovereignty. The ship is 98.5 meters long, 13.2 meters wide, has a maximum speed of 24 knots, and is capable of long-duration maritime patrols.
The vessel is equipped with an automatic radar plotting system, a high-pressure water cannon with a range of 120 meters, a helicopter flight deck, and two pursuit boats with a speed of 35 knots. These features effectively enhance mission capabilities for search and rescue, fishery protection, and combating smuggling and illegal immigration in the Penghu waters.
The Penghu Coast Guard Team currently operates 2 ships and 11 boats, with the Lienchiang being the largest. (Editor: Wu Su-rou) 1150607
