(Central News Agency, reporter Chen Jung-tsan, Taipei, 7th) At the Women's Volleyball Asian Cup held in the Philippines, the Taiwan team secured a victory against Kyrgyzstan with a score of 3-0 in their opening match. Kan Ko-hui led the team with 14 points. Head coach Teng Yen-min revealed that the team's primary goal is to reach the semi-finals.
Preparing for the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan this September, the Taiwan women's volleyball team, led by captain Liao Yi-jen, known as the "Volleyball Sweetheart," is participating in the Asian Cup in the Philippines. In their first group stage match against Kyrgyzstan, Kan Ko-hui scored a team-high 14 points, supported by Tsai Yu-chun with 11 points and Hsu Chen-hsuan with 10 points. Taiwan won the match with set scores of 25-14, 25-11, and 25-17, marking a strong start to the tournament.
In an interview with the media, Head Coach Teng Yen-min stated, "The Asian Cup is the first international tournament for the Taiwan women's team this season. Besides the existing training squad members, we have added many new faces. I hope we can use this tournament to build team chemistry and connections, implement our training tactics in the game, and aim to finish in the top two of our group to qualify for the semi-finals, then gradually work towards better results."
Notably, the current squad includes two high school students who have been selected: 17-year-old Hsu Chen-hsuan and 16-year-old Wu Tzu-hua. Coach Teng believes both players have considerable ability, are key assets to the team, and can play multiple positions. She hopes they can gain more experience by competing in adult-level international tournaments, continuing to learn and grow by "challenging higher levels." (Editor: Chen Jen-hua) 1150607
