(Central News Agency, Jakarta, June 7, special dispatch) The BWF Super 1000 Indonesia Open badminton tournament concluded today. Taiwan's representative team saw men's singles player Chou Tien-chen reach the semifinals, and three other pairs advance to the quarterfinals. Head coach Liu Chia-cheng stated in an interview that the players demonstrated strong capabilities in this top-tier event and will now fully focus on the Asian Games in Nagoya this September.

The Badminton World Federation (BWF) holds only four Super 1000 level tournaments annually, making them second in scale only to the Olympics, World Championships, and the BWF World Tour Finals. This year's Indonesia Open was held from June 2 at the Istora Senayan sports complex in Jakarta. A total of 20 pairs from Taiwan participated. Besides Chou Tien-chen reaching the semifinals, women's singles player Chiu Pin-chien, men's doubles pair Lee Fang-chih and Lee Fang-jen, and mixed doubles pair Ye Hong-wei and Chan Yu-chen all advanced to the quarterfinals.

Looking back at last year's Indonesia Open, Taiwan's team was primarily represented by Chou Tien-chen, who reached the men's singles final and finished as runner-up. Other players were eliminated in the first or second rounds.

Coach Liu told the Central News Agency today that in the recently concluded Singapore Super 750 and Indonesia Super 1000 tournaments, the Taiwan team showed strong competitiveness, with a total of six pairs successfully reaching the quarterfinals. Although only Chou Tien-chen managed to bring back a bronze medal, failing to secure more medals for Taiwan, the coaching staff believes the biggest gain from these two tournaments was not just the results, but also the accumulation of world ranking points and international competition experience.

He stated that maintaining stable performance across two consecutive high-intensity tournaments indicates that the coaching staff's preparation direction for the players is on the right track. Accumulating points for seeding in the team event and individual events at the Nagoya Asian Games will enhance their competitiveness in future major tournaments.

Looking ahead, Coach Liu said the coaching staff will use the experience from these tournaments as a basis for training, aiming to reach peak form before the Asian Games. The team expects to continue breaking through in upcoming events, striving towards the goals set for the Nagoya Asian Games and bringing glory to Taiwan. (Editor: Tang Shengyang) 1150607
