(Central News Agency, reporter Li Jianzhong, Taipei, 7th) In the 2026 Asian Women's Cup Volleyball Championship, the Taiwan representative team played their first match today against Kyrgyzstan, securing a straight-sets victory with scores of 25-14, 25-11, and 25-17. Coach Teng Yen-min stated that the main objective of the first match was to help the players get familiar with the feeling of the game.
The 2026 Asian Women's Cup Volleyball Championship is being held in the Philippines from June 6 to 14, with a total of 12 teams participating. The preliminary round is divided into two groups, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the semifinals.
The Taiwan women's volleyball team is in the same preliminary group as host nation Philippines, South Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Australia, and Uzbekistan. They successfully won their first preliminary match against Kyrgyzstan in straight sets.
In an interview with CNA, Coach Teng said, "Today was the first match, and since Kyrgyzstan is relatively weaker in our group, I tried to let all players get on the court to adapt to the game feel and the venue conditions."
Coach Teng mentioned that the air conditioning in this venue is very strong, and the wind direction is also strong, which has some impact on serving and receiving. He noted that this match provided a good opportunity to experience these conditions in advance.
The Taiwan team has sent 14 players to the Asian Women's Cup. Among them, 17-year-old Hsu Hsuan-chen is making her debut on the senior national team. "She has previously played in age-group tournaments, but this is her first time participating in a senior international competition. We used this match to let her learn from and integrate with the senior players, and her performance was quite good," Coach Teng said.
Coach Teng added that before the Nagoya Asian Games, there are two major tournaments—the Asian Eastern Women's Volleyball Championship and the Asian Women's Volleyball Championship—which will provide opportunities for the players to further improve their skills and experience.
