(Central News Agency, reporter Lu Taicheng, Taitung County, June 6) The Taitung County Xinhe Cultural and Art Association, in collaboration with 24 artists from 8 counties, is exhibiting 70 works including oil paintings and weavings in Guanshan Township in the Taitung Rift Valley, bringing an artistic atmosphere to rural areas.
The association's first art exhibition of the year, titled "Art Goes Rural," kicked off at the Guanshan Township Art and Cultural Center and runs from today until the 28th.
Lai Shih-jung, chairman of the Xinhe Cultural and Art Association, said in an interview with CNA today that the exhibition features around 70 works by 24 artists from 8 counties. The works are diverse and refined, including oil paintings, watercolors, mixed media, ink wash, glue color, pastels, sculptures, indigenous weavings, cloisonné (Jingtai Lan), meticulous Buddhist paintings, and creative calligraphy. He described it as the most bountiful exhibition since the association's founding.
He noted that the Huadong Rift Valley line stretches over 160 kilometers, making Guanshan Township, as a midpoint, an important stop. If a unique character can be cultivated, this Guanshan gallery could become a highly distinctive, small but beautiful art space. He added that Township Mayor Peng has promised gradual improvements in both software and hardware, which would be a boon for the promotion of local arts and culture.
Guanshan Township Mayor Peng Cheng-feng stated that since taking office, he has focused not only on local infrastructure but also on the development of Guanshan's artistic and cultural atmosphere. Creating an art exhibition venue in Guanshan, located on the Huadong Rift Valley line, has been one of his main administrative priorities. After planning and design, the art center was established in a former Japanese dormitory on Minquan Road. He hopes artists will make good use of this venue to maximize its potential and welcomes artists from all over to apply for exhibitions, with the township office providing full support.
In addition to the exhibition opening, today's event featured performances on the hulusi (a gourd flute) and saxophone by Shi Qing-rong, president of the Nanxi Community Development Association in Changbin Township, and quick silhouette portrait cuts by master Li Ming-long for guests, drawing admiration from the audience.
